40 more miles in the books

After spending the night in an unbelievable room donated to us by the Best Western Cavalier Oceanfront Resort in San Simeon, CA, John put in another 40 miles.  If you ever get to the San Simeon area please make sure to ask for Ken Welch.  Ken is the manager at the Best Western Cavalier Oceanfront Resort.  Leaving San Simeon we encountered some picturesque views and very friendly people.  Travelling south on Rt. 1 we went through Morro Bay with the famous Morro Rock.

After Morro Bay we went through the quaint, little town of Cayucos which appeared to be a modern day Norman Rockwell painting found right on the ocean.  Don't bother looking for chains of stores of any kind as you will not find them in Cayucos.  Only mom and pop stores, shops and restaurants.  The day was wrapped up with John being interviewed by a local video blogger.

A very, very special thanks to Susan and Craig Updegrove.  The Updegroves were gracious enough to allow us to stay in their home with them.  They are also friend's of our close friend, Bob Becker.

john-pyleI've had an off-week for training as I was sick for several days with a virus. If I get sick during the transcontinental run I will continue but for now it's best for me to rest and recover and then continue training!

I'm feeling better today though and had a great workout at the gym — my rockstar running coach Ray Zahabfresh back from his expedition in India, will get me a new three week training program tomorrow.

In other good news, Chris Russo has taken over the management of the Patriot Run project. Chris Russo, another dedicated and talented friend, has committed to manage the run.  I'm really excited to have him too! Chris will also be my right hand and crew leader during the transcon.

I am surrounded by dedicated, awesome people who genuinely intend on our succeeding with our mission.

We are less than 80 days away from the start of our trek. Although our mission is to raise $1 million for the Wounded Warrior Project, we also have a operating budget that must be funded before we leave San Francisco. We have already raised a large part of that budget but still need help making this run happen
